Many dog breeds look similar to other types of animals. For example, there are breeds that remind us of lions, foxes, wolves, and even bears. And a few special canines closely resemble polar bears. So here are the top dogs that look like polar bears and what you’ll want to know about them.
Chow Chow
A rare physical trait that the polar bear and the Chow Chow have in common is the color of their tongues. Both have tongues that are blue-black. This bear-like breed has a lavish coat that comes in five colors: red, cinnamon, black, blue, and cream. And while Chow Chows in other coat colors may look similar to a brown or black bear, a Chow Chow with a cream coat looks very similar to the great white bear of the north.
Great Pyrenees
The Great Pyrenees is a giant livestock guardian breed. This polar bear-looking dog is both large and powerful. And it takes its job of protecting the flock very seriously. The Great Pyrenees is either all white or white with gray, tan, or reddish-brown markings.
Samoyed
An ancient Siberian breed, the Samoyed is no stranger to harsh and freezing cold conditions. This white fluffy working dog was bred by the Samoyede people of Siberia to pull sleds and hunt. And it also can herd reindeer. Not only do adult Samoyeds look like big white bears, but puppies look like polar bear cubs.
Maremmano-Abruzzese Sheepdog
This is an Italian breed, with a totally white coat and a black nose. Its coat is long and thick. The Maremmano-Abruzzese Sheepdog is used to protect flocks of sheep from wolves. Normally it will work together with several other dogs in order to keep these hungry predators from preying on the livestock
American Eskimo Dog
Also called the Eski for short, the American Eskimo dog comes in three sizes: toy, miniature, and standard. All three sizes have a pure white coat. These loyal canines are naturally wary of strangers and therefore make alert watchdogs. The American Eskimo Dog does have a lot of energy so be prepared to provide both daily play sessions in addition to walks in order to tire these white bear-looking dogs out.
Pomeranian
Most people assume that the Pomeranian only has an orange coat. However, these confident and cocky little dogs actually come in a wide range of coat colors which includes all white. And with a maximum weight of only seven pounds, that means you can have your very own mini-polar bear pooch.
Slovak Cuvac
Also known as the Slovensky Cuvac this is a close relative of the Kuvasz. It is a dog breed that looks like a polar bear and is traditionally used to guard sheep. The Slovak Cuvac is well-known for its ability to actually fight off bears and wolves. It is a massive canine that only comes in white, that way it can easily be distinguished from predators.
Korean Jindo
A hunter and guardian, the Korean Jindo is also known for its highly loyal nature. It is a muscular dog that is named for its place of origin: Jindo Island in South Korea. When considering one, remember that this breed doesn’t typically get along well with other animals. The Korean Jindo’s coat comes in white(with brown-tipped ears) along with several other colors.
Japanese Spitz
The Japanese Spitz has a straight and dense coat that’s pure white in color. It is an intelligent breed that was created in Japan. Fun-loving would be an accurate way to describe the personality of these small white dogs that look like polar bears. In fact, they are often referred to as “little comedians.”
