Through artificial selection, dog breeders have created hundreds of unique breeds with a range of different physical characteristics. Some even look similar to other animals including sheep. So here are seven dogs that look like sheep, and what you’ll want to know about them.
Puli
The Puli is a charming dog breed with dreadlocks. This dog breed has a naturally corded coat that almost makes it resemble a mop. The coat also serves a functional purpose, however; the dense fur is weatherproof, allowing this breed to perform its job as a sheepherder without worrying about whether or not it is raining.
Keep in mind, however, that this coat does require quite a bit of maintenance. Puli dogs are surprisingly agile, and they also require plenty of exercise to stay healthy and enriched.
Komondor
Another sheep looking dog is the Komondor, a large and powerful dog that is no stranger to a hard day’s work. While they might look like they are all brawny and muscular at a first glance, Komondors are actually agile and athletic dogs, similar to the Puli.
This is an incredibly loyal and brave dog breed that will be sure to stay by your side through thick and thin. So long as you can provide your Komondor with plenty of exercise and lots of space, this rare dog breed makes an excellent pet.
Bedlington Terrier
The Bedlington Terrier is a dog that looks like a lamb with its plush, white coat. Don’t let that adorable appearance fool, you though! While Bedlington Terriers do love to snuggle up on the couch and watch TV or take naps, they are also hard-working dogs that need plenty of exercise and enrichment. This is an incredibly playful breed that can run at impressive speeds. Their fleecy coat is also low shedding and easy to maintain.
Old English Sheepdog
The Old English Sheepdog may have been originally bred to herd sheep, but ironically enough, they also look just like the creatures they were meant to herd! This large dog is covered in an irresistibly fluffy, dense coat. These are the gentle giants of the dog world, and they are great companions for children.
They are also wary watchdogs that are incredibly protective of their family members. They are patient, gentle, and affectionate most of the time, but the moment they sense danger, they transform into a fierce and courageous protector.
Bouvier Des Flandres
The Bouvier Des Flandres is a dog that looks like a sheep but has all the courage and muscle of a lion. This is a highly intelligent dog breed that was designed to work around the farm. As such, they need plenty of wide, open spaces to keep themselves entertained.
They can be stubborn and strong-willed at times, so the Bouvier Des Flandres works best in a home with experienced dog owners. Once they are properly trained and their exercise needs are met, however, they are affectionate and loyal as any dog.
Poodle
Most poodles resemble sheep, but a poodle with a corded coat is easily one of the most sheep-looking of all canines. While most people imagine poodles to be pampered and aristocratic in temperament, they are actually quite athletic. The poodle is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, and for good reason!
They are stylish and graceful creatures that also make loyal and dedicated companions. This is also an incredibly intelligent dog breed that can be trained to do all sorts of tasks, and they excel in skills like agility competitions.
Briard
If you are searching for dogs that look like sheep, then look no further than the Briard! This ancient sheep herding dog has an iconic fluffy coat coupled with a bushy pair of eyebrows and an adorable mustache. This is an intelligent breed that is easy to train. They are very loyal towards their family members but can be quite wary towards strangers.
Briards get along excellently with children, and they are known to have an endearing protective streak. However, their intelligence and energy can be a bit overwhelming for first-time dog owners.
