Owning An English Bull Terrier

While each dog is truly different, specific breeds are known for having certain physical and personality traits. This is especially for the English Bull Terrier which can make owning one a totally unique experience. Here are some of the benefits you should expect from this wonderful breed.

Never A Dull Moment

Whoever compared the Bull Terrier to a child in a dog suit wasn’t far off. Living with one will ensure that there is never a dull moment around the house. Their antics are often downright hilarious and sure to make for a funny story to tell friends and family.

Other times, particularly when they’re bored, they will be sure to test your patience, temper, and love for them. Regardless of what your English Bull Terrier gets up to though, it’s basically guaranteed that they’ll keep you busy in some way daily.

The Hucklebutt

The hucklebutt is what Bull Terrier owners affectionately call the physical expression of pure bully joy and excitement that their pooch shows off. Just about all bull terriers will do this in one form or another and each of them will do it in their own unique way.

However, it usually does end up involving some combination of spinning, running back and forth, jumping, and then freezing for a moment before doing it all again in not necessarily in any specific order. It also may include barking, groaning, whining, running up and down the stairs, or hallway sprinting at full speed.

Sofas and beds are particularly popular spots for bull terrier hucklebutt displays. They are usually absolutely hilarious to watch and worthy of filming. However, this breed is both strong and low to the ground so you’ll want to stand clear when the hucklebutting begins.

If you don’t you may end up having your legs taken out from under you or getting slammed by an English Bull Terrier skull during a spinning frenzy which is painful. Of course, your pooch doesn’t want to harm you, he’s just excited and the hucklebutt is his unique way of showing it!

So Ugly They’re Beautiful

Speaking of that unique skull, the egg-shaped head is without a doubt the most unique physical feature of the Bull Terrier. When walking one you will be sure to see people do double-takes when they notice it.

Interestingly most non-owners fall into one of two camps. Either they find it to be the cutest thing ever, or they think it’s the ugliest thing they’ve ever seen. As an owner, however, it is guaranteed that you will fall in love with it even if you sometimes find yourself staring at it in amazement.

You’ll Never Find A Better Friend

These are dogs that truly love their people. In fact, they are famous for their loyalty. And there are many stories of just how willing they are to give their lives to protect their owners should they truly need it. While they may have independent personalities you won’t find another pet that cares as much about their family as this breed does.

An Unlikely Lapdog

Many people are surprised to find out just how affectionate their pet is with them. In fact, it’s just part of the English Bull Terrier temperament combined with their love for their owners. These pooches seriously enjoy cuddling, not something you might expect from the pound-for-pound most muscular breed on the planet.

They often stick to you like Velcro. More often than not this doesn’t mean as close to you as possible but on you. Both the Mini English Bull Terrier and standard size really do think they’re lapdogs. It’s pretty adorable. If they are raised with other family pets they most likely will want to cuddle with them too.

The Bull Terrier is certainly not the right dog for everyone. But if you have experience, patience, and time and would like to experience the benefits listed here they might be ideal for you!
